Lucas leads comeback over Gophers


Michigan State defeated Minnesota on Saturday afternoon by a score of 65-64.

Despite trailing throughout the entire game and by as much as 13 midway through the second half, the Spartans (17-3) managed to mount a comeback led by Junior point-guard Kalin Lucas.

With the game tied at 62 with under two minutes to play, Lucas hit a key three-pointer to push the Spartans into the lead. Minnesota (12-7) battled back but fell short in the final seconds by a key defensive stop from Michigan State.

Lucas led all scorers with 22 points while Lawrence Westbrook and Devoe Joseph led Minnesota with 16 points apiece. Michigan State shot 46% (11-24) from three point range while only committing 10 turnovers.

Michigan State will play at Michigan next Tuesday. It will be the first meeting of the season between the two rivals. The Spartans are now 7-0 in Big Ten play.
